I mostly cut softer plastics, so things may work different with harder stuff. It's probably too simplistic, but that's how I got to single-flute bits for plastic. Posted by Darren on 15th Nov 2023 This is my go too end mill for machining small pockets and cutting peripheral timber shapes.To minimize rewelding I want big, cool chips.To get a good surface finish on plastic, I must prevent the chips from melting (rewelding) and sticking inside the cut (and to the bit).I've come to think that I should use bits with one flute when cutting plastic on my Shark, and two-flute bits for wood. When I first got my CNC Shark about a year ago, I found some technical articles geared toward routing plastic:
